As of the end of May 2010, at the moment of release of Shrek Forever After, there are approximately 490 digital cinema screens in Russia, 99% of which are equipped with 3D screens. As of 27 May 2010, digital screens can be found in nearly 360 cinemas, which represent 44% of the Russian modern cinemas.
From the beginning of 2010 at least 140 digital cinemas have opened in Russia, and more than 40 digital cinema installations have been undertaken by Nevafilm CINEMAS in collaboration with such cinema chains as Formula Kino, Karo Film, Paradise, Kinomax, CinemaInvest, EA-Cinema, Imperia Igr-Electronika, KinoExpert, Primier-zal, as well as with independent cinemas in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Abakan, Arkhangelsk, Voronezh, Kirov, Kurgan, Magnitogorsk, Samara, Tula, Ulyanovsk, Cheboksary, Chita, and in other cities. Today Nevafilm is a leading integrator of hardware for digital screens in Russia with a market share of 33% (160 cinema screens, as at 27 May 2010).
According to Nevafilm Research forecasts by the end of 2010, the total number of Russian digital cinemas may exceed 600 screens (in about 430 cinemas), and the market share of digital screens may reach 25%.
